You First Lesson - FREE
We know what its ike when you have your first guitar, you're itching to start learning and playing your first few chords so let us get you started.
Of course, we offer professional Music Institute Graduated tuiton from our shop here in Long Eaton, and you can book your lessons with us now online, but while you're waiting for the first 'one to one' lesson, here are a few chords to start you practicing.
Your First Chord - A minor (Am)
Here you can see the chord of A minor, or Am as it is commonly written. The numbers on the dots represent the fingures to be used while playing the chord, with '1' being your index finger, '2' your middle fingure and so on. The 'Nut' is the top of your guitar fret board and the horizontal lines below this represent the frets on the fretboard.
Try positioning your fingures like this, ensuring each finder only contacts on string and gently strum the guitar.
Your chord should sound something like
this
.
Open Chords
Open chords are basically chords that contain at least one note in the open strings. (Play the string without fingering them). They are the basic chords in playing the guitar. However, this does not mean that learning to play these guitar chords for the first time is easy. Here is a list of major open chords that is also commonly referred to as the CAGED system. The chords are written in a different style that is commonly found on the net. Do you notice that there is some slight difference from that of the previous chord diagram? Basically, the main difference is that the numbering of the fingers is now at the bottom of the chord diagram instead of inside the black dots.
Practice these chord shapes and we'll see you at your first lesson.
